Ballpark ranges
These are typical ranges for planning only. Asphalt and fuel prices move, and every site is different, so your written quote is the number that counts.
| Work | Typical range |
|---|---|
| New asphalt driveway (base + asphalt) | about $4–$8 per sq ft |
| Asphalt overlay | about $2.50–$4.50 per sq ft |
| Double chip seal | about $2–$4 per sq ft |
| Recycled millings, installed | about $1.50–$3 per sq ft |
| Sealcoating | about $0.20–$0.45 per sq ft |
| Crack sealing | often priced per job or per linear foot |
| Culvert ditch crossing | depends on pipe size and length |
What pushes the price up
- Soft or wet ground that has to be dug out and replaced.
- Old asphalt or concrete to remove and haul.
- Drainage work — culverts, swales, regrading.
- Heavy-duty sections for RVs, trailers and trucks.
- Small jobs — mobilizing a paver and roller has a fixed cost.
- Distance from the asphalt plant for far-out rural sites.
Ways to save
- Asphalt near the house; chip seal or millings on the long run.
- Team up with neighbors on a shared lane.
- Seal cracks and sealcoat on schedule — it's far cheaper than replacing.
- Overlay instead of replace when the base is still good.
What a good quote includes
Area, base thickness, asphalt thickness after compaction, removal, drainage work, edges, tie-ins and cleanup — all in writing. If two quotes differ a lot, compare those lines.

Common questions
Why can't you give an exact price by phone?
Soil, drainage, removal and access change the cost. A short visit lets us put a firm number in writing.
Is there a minimum job size?
Small jobs are welcome, but there's a minimum to cover bringing the paving equipment.
Is chip seal really cheaper?
Usually yes per square foot, which is why it's popular on long lanes.
