Fix the base, not just the hole
Potholes form when water softens or washes out the base under the asphalt. On damp valley ground that happens faster. A shovel of cold patch fills the hole for a while; a real repair removes the failed area and rebuilds it.
Common repairs
Potholes
Saw-cut to solid pavement, remove wet base, rebuild and compact, tack the edges, fill with hot-mix.
Sunken areas
Usually soft soil or an old trench. Dug out, rebuilt and repaved.
Crumbled edges
Cut back to solid pavement and rebuilt with a compacted taper and shoulder support.
Settled ditch crossings
Asphalt that dips over a culvert means the fill settled. We rebuild the crossing properly. See ditch crossings.
Alligator cracking
Spiderweb cracking means the base failed. Removed and rebuilt.

Repair or resurface?
If repairs would cover a big part of the drive, an overlay after repairs may be the better value.
Common questions
Do you do small repairs?
Yes — call (505) 207-9982 and describe the damage.
Why did my last patch fail?
Usually wet or soft base, no saw-cut, or poor compaction.
Can you fix a dip over my culvert?
Yes — by rebuilding the crossing with properly compacted fill.
